Pause and read the map
Press Space or use the pause control before spending your starting supplies. You can place buildings, hire workers and change priorities while paused; production, deliveries and expedition time wait until you resume.
Find the settlement center, the warehouse, nearby roads and a useful patch of forest. Arrow keys pan the map and plus or minus changes the zoom. Build only on discovered tiles, and leave room for roads between your workshops.
Connect a forester lodge and a sawmill
Place a forester lodge on a free land tile with forest within two tiles. Forest itself occupies its tile, so build beside it rather than on top of it. The lodge needs an adjacent road and a worker to produce logs.
Build a sawmill with road access and inspect its workforce. A porter must deliver logs from the lodge or storage before the sawmill can turn them into wood. Resume time and follow the first delivery; a completed building alone does not complete the supply chain.
Feed people before adding more homes
A settler cottage adds four housing spaces, but every additional resident increases food demand. The settlement uses one food per day for each started pair of residents. Keep a reserve before expanding.
A farm produces food and grain. As your settlement develops, a mill turns grain into flour and a bakery turns flour into food. These workshops also need workers, roads and deliveries. Build a working food supply before filling the map with homes.
Inspect a stalled workshop
End building mode and select a workshop to read its current status. Missing workers, missing inputs, depleted nearby deposits and full stores have different solutions. A warning marker on the map helps you find blocked production.
If logs are available but the sawmill waits, inspect the road route and porter workload. If the store is full, make space for the entire production batch or improve storage. More workshops will not fix a blocked delivery route.
Finish the tutorial and keep a backup
Build the sawmill, complete the first log delivery and accumulate 90 wood to meet the required tutorial goals. Population growth and a bakery are additional objectives. Completing First Harbor unlocks Stone Neck.
